A Little Goes A Long Way

Designwindows is committed to looking after the environment and preserving the New Zealand way of life. We not only have a strong belief in our quality product and its manufacturing process, we know that sustainability begins at home. That is why all 3 Designwindows outlets do the following:

  • Recycle all cardboard and plastic packaging.
  • Recycle all scrap aluminium.
  • Where possible use computers to record transactions rather than paper.
  • Service all vehicles regularly.
  • Sort and recycle smoko room waste.

    Aluminium Is Sustainable

    • Aluminium is the most abundant metal in the earth’s crust.
    • Aluminium and wood windows typically last over 40 years, while PVC has an optimum life of 25 years.
    • Recycled aluminium accounts for one third of global consumption.

    NZMS Is Very Well Managed

Key facts in regard to environmental performance and initiatives with New Zealand Aluminium Smelter (NZMS):

    • Electricity from a renewable resource – Manapouri hydrogeneration Power Station.
    • Ranks in top 20% of world smelters for energy efficiency.
    • While production has increased, Carbon Dioxide emissions have been halved.
    • Capital investment of $9.5 million in energy efficiency in 2006.
    • Other substantial environmental projects currently underway. Including landfill reduction initiatives, reject timber mulching, reusable packaging, staff participation in beach clean up, and continued sponsorship of the Kakapo Recovery Programme.

    Inex Extrusion Plant

    • The only Australasian extrusion plant to recycle its scrap directly.
    • Recycles all reusable components.
    • Spent $200,000 in 2007 on energy efficiency projects.
