Jellyfish Restaurant & Bar

As a continuation of the Mapua Wharf development, the refurbishment of local iconic restaurant, Jellyfish, situated within a heritage building directly by the sea created a real challenge for local architectural designer Tony Karsten.

A sympathetic approach is required when utilising prominent building materials such as aluminium louvres and large glass frontages—and one which has been hugely successful with the Jellyfish restaurant.

With expansive views over the Mapua Inlet, the outdoor casual seating and dining area is protected by four separate roof louvres. At 3m x 2.5m each, ample shelter is provided from the coastal elements yet with a simple flick of a switch allows the pleasure of sampling a local Nelson wine in the sun. Several large Altherm Residential Series stackers ranging from 2.5 to 3m marry the Kwila deck to the stunning interior.

Modernised and preserved for another generation, this local iconic restaurant is enjoyed by both locals and tourists all year round, whatever the weather.
